Starfire is getting a new solo comic in 2027, written by Alyssa Wong with art by Belén Ortega. The project was revealed at DC’s Next Level panel at New York Comic Con on October 10, according to AIPT’s eyewitness recap. DC editor-in-chief Marie Javins moderated the panel.

The reports agree on the creative team and year, but give different levels of date precision. AIPT says early 2027; Bleeding Cool reports April 2027. An exact publisher-confirmed on-sale date was not established in the sources checked for this article.

What kind of Starfire story is being pitched?

The panel coverage describes Wong’s pitch as “Red Sonja meets One Piece.” That is a shorthand comparison for the series’ proposed adventure direction, not an announcement that either property will cross over with DC.

AIPT’s recap points to gladiatorial adventure and an emotional dimension to Starfire’s story. Those descriptions give readers a sense of the creators’ intentions, but do not yet provide a full synopsis, named supporting cast or issue-by-issue roadmap.

The confirmed division of work is straightforward: Wong writes and Ortega draws. There is no basis in the checked panel reporting for adding unannounced collaborators or promising a particular supporting character’s return.

Who is Starfire?

DC’s official character profile identifies Starfire as Koriand’r, a princess from Tamaran and a member of the Teen Titans. That background explains why a new solo series has room to explore a perspective beyond the team’s usual ensemble stories.

Her existing history should remain separate from assumptions about this particular run. A familiar connection to the Titans, Tamaran or her sister Blackfire does not establish who will appear in the forthcoming comic. The new series’ continuity details and Blackfire’s role remain unconfirmed here.

Has DC shown the new Starfire artwork?

AIPT explicitly reports that no artwork was available to show during the panel. The archival photograph above therefore depicts Javins, the panel’s moderator, rather than presenting older Starfire art as a 2027 cover. It was taken in Anaheim in March 2025 and is not a photograph of this announcement.

A publisher cover reveal, first-issue solicitation and preview pages would give readers a firmer look at Ortega’s approach and the story’s setting. None should be invented from the pitch alone.

When does the comic launch?

Treat 2027 as the common reported window and April as Bleeding Cool’s more specific report pending direct publisher corroboration. The checked sources do not establish an exact day, price, total issue count or regional availability.
