Steven Soderbergh Will Help Finish The Batman Part II Filming; Reeves Remains Director
Steven Soderbergh will assist with The Batman Part II's remaining principal photography. Matt Reeves says he is staying; no revised release date is announced.

Steven Soderbergh will help complete the remaining principal photography on The Batman Part II, while Matt Reeves remains the film’s writer-director. Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced the arrangement on October 15 as Reeves continues to attend to a family matter.
The studio’s statement, reproduced by TheWrap, says Soderbergh approached Reeves and will work with him, the actors and the crew during the final weeks of filming. It describes assistance in completing Reeves’ film.
What Reeves said about staying
Reeves addressed the question directly in his original public post: “I am not leaving The Batman Part II.” He thanked Soderbergh for helping him finish principal photography.
That clarification matters when reading headlines about Soderbergh taking over filming. The announced task is to help complete the shoot during Reeves’ absence. Reeves’ statement does not describe his resignation, and the studio continues to call him the writer-director.
Soderbergh’s accompanying statement says his aim is to work with the existing team so the new footage fits the material already filmed. It does not announce a separate version of the sequel or a change in its creative direction.
How this follows the production pause
Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced a temporary pause in early October, expressing support for Reeves. Variety’s account of the new arrangement connects Soderbergh’s involvement to that absence.
Our earlier production-pause coverage includes Robert Pattinson’s subsequent comments and the earlier Glasgow Batmobile sightings. Those are background to this new announcement; the Soderbergh arrangement answers the separate question of who will help finish the remaining photography.
No exact restart day, remaining filming-day count or schedule for Reeves’ return has been announced in the statements. His private circumstances do not establish anything about the film’s plot or production quality.
Has the release date changed?
No revised release date accompanies this announcement. TheWrap still lists February 18, 2028, the reported US theatrical schedule. That is the current schedule, rather than a guarantee against any future change or confirmation of the same opening day in every country.
Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Further plot details and any effect this filming arrangement might have on the finished film remain unestablished. See our DC coverage for related reporting.
