— Netflix Tudum Season 2 page checked October 28, 2026, after it named John Goodman as Jack. Variety and Deadline reports from the same day checked against that notice.

Netflix says John Goodman will play Jack, the father of Claire Danes’s Aggie Wiggs, in Season 2 of The Beast in Me. The streamer’s Tudum page, updated October 28, 2026, names the role and still does not give a premiere date, an episode count or a synopsis.

Goodman joins a series that began as a limited story. Season 1 arrived on Netflix on November 13, 2025. Tudum says it debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s global Top 10, reached the Top 10 in 88 countries and drew 43 million views in seven weeks. Netflix ordered Season 2 in September, with Danes returning as Aggie and Howard Gordon sharing showrunning duties with Daniel Pearle.

What Netflix has actually said

The October 28 Tudum update says Goodman, whom Netflix calls an Emmy winner, will play Aggie’s father, Jack. It points to his work on The Righteous Gemstones, Digger, Barton Fink and The Big Lebowski. It does not describe Jack’s personality, occupation or how he enters the new season.

Gordon’s quote on the same page is about the decision to continue, not about Jack’s story. “We always told ourselves we’d only do a second season of The Beast in Me if we found a story that was worthy of the first — and I’m thrilled to say we found it,” he says. He thanks Jinny Howe at Netflix and Karey Burke at 20th Television. Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted series, calls the return part of a new creative partnership with Gordon and cites Matthew Rhys’s Emmy win for Season 1. Neither quote says what Jack does on screen.

The listed Season 2 executive producers are Danes, Gordon, Pearle, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, series creator Gabe Rotter, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster. 20th Television is the studio. That list is a production credit, not a cast list.

What the trades add, and what they do not confirm

Variety, which timestamps its report 9:45 a.m. PT on October 28, says it has learned Goodman will play Jack, Aggie’s father, and that exact plot details are under wraps. Deadline’s report the same day also says Goodman will play Aggie’s dad. Deadline adds a description Netflix’s notice does not: the father is “believed to be” a long-time con artist, and Deadline says the streamer has yet to confirm plot details.

That “believed to be” line should stay in the reported column. Netflix has confirmed the actor and the role name. It has not published the con-artist description, a scene, or a statement that Jack is the season’s central mystery.

The father was already a thread Gordon had mentioned, before any Season 2 order. In a November 13, 2025 interview with TV Insider, he called Aggie’s estranged father a character he was curious to explore, and described him as a grifter with a complicated relationship to his daughter. That interview is not a Netflix Season 2 announcement, and it does not say Goodman had been cast. What Season 1 itself shows about that relationship is covered, with spoilers, in The Beast in Me ending explained.

Who is not confirmed for Season 2

Danes is the returning lead Netflix names. Tudum still describes Rhys’s Nile Jarvis as part of Aggie’s Season 1 story. It does not say Rhys is back. A first-season cast list is not a return list. Nile’s fate is a Season 1 spoiler, so it belongs in the ending guide rather than here.

Tudum also records the Season 1 awards context without turning it into a Season 2 promise. It says the first season received 21 Emmy nominations. Danes was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a limited or anthology series. Rhys won outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series, which Howe calls a historic win. Composers Sean Callery and Sara Barone won a Creative Arts Emmy for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special. Season 2 has not been given an air date, so none of that predicts a release window.

What is still unknown

Netflix has not announced:

  • a Season 2 premiere date, month or year
  • an episode count
  • a synopsis beyond Jack’s identity as Aggie’s father
  • whether Rhys, Brittany Snow or other Season 1 actors return
  • a trailer or a first image of Goodman in the role

The still at the top of this page is Danes as Aggie in Season 1, from Netflix’s first-look gallery. It is not new-season footage.

Season 1 is streaming on Netflix. Tudum tells readers they can watch or rewatch it there now. A global Top 10 run does not guarantee that every local catalogue, audio track or subtitle set matches. Check the Netflix listing where you are.

Until Netflix publishes a date, The Beast in Me Season 2 does not belong on a release calendar as a day, month or season. The confirmed news is the role: John Goodman is Jack, Aggie Wiggs’s father.
