Jessica Jones: Alias Reunites Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos for Her 25th Anniversary

Twenty-five years after Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos created Jessica Jones in Alias, Marvel is putting the pair back together. Jessica Jones: Alias, a new five-issue limited series, launches December 23, 2026, with covers by original Alias artist David Mack.

One thing worth clearing up immediately: this is not the same comic as Alias: Red Band, the other Jessica Jones anniversary project Marvel already published earlier in 2026.

What Is Jessica Jones: Alias?

Jessica Jones: Alias is a new five-issue limited series written by Bendis with art by Gaydos, the character’s original creative team from 2001. Marvel’s official synopsis puts Jessica back in the field after “a tumultuous tenure as First Lady of New York” — she’s looking to get back to basics as a private investigator, but what looks like a simple abduction case ends up dragging her “to the most obscure and bizarre corners of the Marvel Universe.”

Why Bendis and Gaydos Returning Matters

Bendis and Gaydos created Jessica Jones together in Alias in 2001, and this is the first time both have returned to the character for a new series timed to that anniversary. Bendis told Entertainment Weekly: “Jessica has, since her debut, been something very different in my life. There’s something very emotional and intimate about the way [people] talk about her… People see themselves in her and love her and root for her. All of that is in this series.” David Mack, whose painted covers helped define the original Alias run’s visual identity, returns to draw the covers here as well — his Jessica Jones: Alias #1 cover carries an explicit “25 Years” anniversary badge and echoes the original series’ “Have You Seen Me?” imagery.

Is This the Same as Alias: Red Band?

No — and the near-identical anniversary framing makes this worth spelling out clearly:

Both are 2026 Jessica Jones 25th-anniversary projects, and both use David Mack for covers, which is part of why the two get confused. But they’re separate stories from separate creative teams — Alias: Red Band already wrapped its own run earlier in the year, while Jessica Jones: Alias is the new book reuniting her actual co-creators.

What’s the New Story About?

Beyond Marvel’s own synopsis, specifics are thin by design this early — that’s normal for a first-issue solicitation. What’s confirmed: Jessica is coming off serving as “First Lady of New York” (consistent with her status as Luke Cage’s wife established in Alias: Red Band earlier this year), and an abduction case pulls her out of her usual Hell’s Kitchen territory into stranger territory across the wider Marvel Universe. Treat anything more specific about locations, villains, or plot beats as unconfirmed until Marvel’s own preview or solicitation text says more.
