MADiSON Adds Permadeath POSSESSION Mode; Free DLC Planned for 2027
MADiSON's Steam update adds POSSESSION mode, optional Normal Mode hints and subtitle sizing. The Maxwells' Curse has a 2027 window and is free for owners.

MADiSON’s October 26 Steam update adds POSSESSION mode: limited photographs, harder enemies, no autosave and a run that ends when you die. Players who prefer help rather than a harsher challenge get optional hints in Normal Mode. Bloodious Games also places the free story expansion The Maxwells’ Curse in 2027, without an exact date.
These changes are verified through the developer’s original Steam announcement. That confirms the PC update; it does not by itself establish simultaneous availability on every console or in MADiSON VR.
How POSSESSION mode changes the game
The new mode removes visual hints and photography zones, makes enemies harder and removes autosaving. Death ends the run. Bloodious presents it as a challenge for players already familiar with the game.
The announcement specifies 43 photographs, but also tells players to search furniture, drawers and other corners for additional film. That second detail matters: describing 43 as an absolute, unchangeable lifetime total would omit the developer’s advice about finding extra shots.
| Choice | What the developer says |
|---|---|
| POSSESSION mode | Limited photos, no visual hints or photography zones, harder enemies, no autosave and permanent death for the run. |
| Normal Mode | Optional puzzle hints are now available for players who want more guidance. |
Normal Mode’s new hints are an option, rather than a requirement to play with assistance. The announcement does not provide a complete mode-by-mode comparison of every setting or specify an unlock route for POSSESSION; those details should not be inferred from its difficulty description.
Languages, subtitles and fixes
Bloodious says the update raises support to 22 languages, adding Spanish as used in Spain, Traditional Chinese, Ukrainian, Greek, Dutch, Swedish and Czech. Existing translations have also been revised.
There is a new option to enlarge subtitles and an unlockable Bloody Camera. The notes also list graphics-mode balancing, visual and gameplay fixes, and a fix for an achievement that could fail to unlock. They do not explain how to obtain the new camera.
The Maxwells’ Curse has a year, not a day
The official DLC listing and Bloodious’ website now say 2027 and describe the expansion as free for people who own MADiSON. Alyssa arrives at the Maxwell house after the original game’s events.
There is no announced month, day or unlock hour in those sources. The Steam listing establishes a PC destination; a matching release schedule for other platforms remains unconfirmed here. The 2027 window belongs to this game expansion and does not date the separately announced MADiSON film.
