DC Absolute Universe Reading Order: Where to Start With Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and More

The easiest way to read DC’s Absolute Universe is also the part most reading-order lists make unnecessarily complicated: you do not need to alternate every series issue by issue.

Start with whichever hero interests you. Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman were built as separate entry points, and the second wave — Absolute Flash, Absolute Green Lantern and Absolute Martian Manhunter — works the same way. There are now a few genuine connections, but they are exceptions rather than the structure of the whole line.

If you want the complete experience, this is the cleanest route as of August 24, 2026:

1. DC All In Special #1 — recommended for the origin of the universe, but not required.
2. Absolute Batman Vol. 1: The Zoo
3. Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 1: The Last Amazon
4. Absolute Superman Vol. 1: Last Dust of Krypton
5. Absolute Flash Vol. 1: Of Two Worlds
6. Absolute Green Lantern Vol. 1: Without Fear
7. Absolute Martian Manhunter Vol. 1: Martian Vision
8. Continue whichever ongoing books you like.
9. When you reach the first Batman/Wonder Woman crossover, read Absolute Wonder Woman #15 → Absolute Batman #16.
10. Read Absolute Evil #1 before Absolute Green Arrow.
11. Read Absolute Catwoman after Selina’s setup in Absolute Batman if you want the strongest continuity handoff.
12. Add the announced late-2026 Absolute event when DC publishes it.

That is the practical answer. The rest of this guide explains where the books sit, what you can skip and what has actually started crossing over.

Do You Need to Read DC All In Special #1 First?

No — but it is the best prologue.

DC All In Special #1, released October 2, 2024, is where DC formally set up the new reality alongside its mainline universe. Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson wrote the one-shot, with art including Daniel Sampere and Wes Craig.

It explains the cosmic circumstances behind the Absolute Universe and Darkseid’s role in its creation. DC’s own description frames this as a world where its biggest heroes come of age with fewer advantages and greater opposition than their main-universe counterparts.

That context is useful, but the individual #1 issues were still designed as jumping-on points. You can pick up Absolute Batman #1 without reading Absolute Power, a pile of Justice League books or decades of DC continuity.

What Is Actually Published Right Now?

The line has expanded considerably since the original Trinity launched.

Absolute Catwoman #3 is scheduled for August 26, so it is not counted as released in this guide yet.

DC also has Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadow’s Hand #1 announced for September 9, positioned between Absolute Catwoman #3 and #4. And DC has confirmed its first Absolute Universe event miniseries for Q4 2026, but the publisher has not publicly revealed enough details to put a named event into the reading order yet.

Absolute Batman Reading Order

Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta launched Absolute Batman #1 on October 9, 2024. It is the biggest and easiest doorway into the line if you already read Batman.

This Bruce Wayne is stripped of the traditional billionaire safety net. No inherited fortune, no Wayne Manor and no Alfred-as-butler infrastructure. The result is still recognizably Batman, but the methods, relationships and scale are rebuilt around a working-class Bruce who has to manufacture his own advantages.

For a new reader:

Start: Absolute Batman #1
Collected start: Absolute Batman Vol. 1: The Zoo (#1–6)

Then continue into later volumes rather than trying to synchronize every Batman issue with the rest of the line.

The one place Batman’s order does intersect another ongoing directly is the Wonder Woman crossover:

Absolute Wonder Woman #15 → Absolute Batman #16

DC explicitly labels Batman #16 as part two of that story, so this is one crossover where publication order genuinely matters.

Absolute Wonder Woman Reading Order

Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman launched Absolute Wonder Woman #1 on October 23, 2024.

Diana’s missing advantage is foundational: she is not raised on Themyscira with the Amazon sisterhood readers normally know. Her version of the mythology leans hard into witchcraft, monsters and dark fantasy while still preserving the core of Wonder Woman underneath it.

Start: Absolute Wonder Woman #1
Collected start: Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 1: The Last Amazon (#1–7)

After that, continue into Vol. 2: As My Mothers Made Me and the later single issues/collections.

Again, the only special instruction is:

Read #15 before Absolute Batman #16.

You do not need to read the first fifteen issues of Absolute Batman to understand Wonder Woman’s own series, and you do not need all of Wonder Woman to understand Batman. The crossover is a bridge, not a merger of both books.

Absolute Superman Reading Order

Absolute Superman #1 arrived November 6, 2024 from Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval, completing the original launch trio.

This version of Kal-El removes several of Superman’s usual foundations: his relationship to Krypton is radically different, he does not grow up with the standard Kent-family childhood, and his world is shaped by systems designed to exploit people rather than give him an easy place to belong.

Start: Absolute Superman #1
Collected start: Absolute Superman Vol. 1: Last Dust of Krypton (#1–6)

From there, Vol. 2: Son of the Demon continues the run, with the monthly series now through issue #22.

The 2025 Expansion: Flash, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter

DC expanded the line with three more major reinventions in 2025.

Absolute Flash

Jeff Lemire and Nick Robles’ Absolute Flash launched March 19, 2025 with Wally West at the center.

Start: Absolute Flash #1
Collected start: Absolute Flash Vol. 1: Of Two Worlds (#1–6)

You can read it entirely independently of the Trinity.

Absolute Green Lantern

Al Ewing and Jahnoy Lindsay launched Absolute Green Lantern on April 2, 2025.

Rather than simply rebuilding the traditional Green Lantern Corps formula with different costumes, the series takes the mythology in a more alien and unsettling direction.

Start: Absolute Green Lantern #1
Collected start: Absolute Green Lantern Vol. 1: Without Fear (#1–6)

It is also independent enough that you do not need Absolute Superman or Batman first.

Absolute Martian Manhunter

Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez’s Absolute Martian Manhunter is especially convenient for somebody who wants a finished story.

Its run concluded with issue #12 on July 1, 2026.

Start: Absolute Martian Manhunter #1
Collected start: Absolute Martian Manhunter Vol. 1: Martian Vision (#1–6)

Then continue through the second half to #12.

Unlike the three original ongoing books, this one now has a defined endpoint rather than asking you to catch an indefinitely expanding monthly series.

Absolute Evil Is Where the Universe Starts Feeling Shared

The cleanest shared-universe checkpoint so far is Absolute Evil #1.

DC published the one-shot on October 1, 2025. Instead of forcing every hero book into an event, it brings together major villain-side pieces of the Absolute Universe and pushes the line toward its next stage.

For a Batman-only, Superman-only or Wonder Woman-only reader, it is recommended, not mandatory.

For an Absolute Green Arrow reader, it matters much more because DC explicitly says that series spins out of the events of Absolute Evil.

So the useful order is:

1. Absolute Evil #1
2. Absolute Green Arrow #1
3. Continue Absolute Green Arrow in issue order

The current Green Arrow mystery centers on an unknown archer DC has referred to as the Longbow Killer. That is the correct name — not “Longbow Hunter.” The comic is also a six-issue limited series as originally announced by DC.

You do not need to know the killer’s identity before starting. The mystery is the story.

Where Does Absolute Catwoman Fit?

Absolute Catwoman is another 2026 six-issue limited series, written by Che Grayson and Scott Snyder with Bengal on art.

Selina Kyle was already established through Absolute Batman, so readers following Batman will get the cleanest handoff by encountering that material before starting her solo book.

You can still read Absolute Catwoman #1 on its own, but this is one case where prior Batman context adds something.

As of August 24:

• #1 and #2 are out
• #3 releases August 26
• Absolute Cassandra Cain: The Shadow’s Hand #1 follows September 9
• Absolute Catwoman #4 resumes in October

That Cassandra Cain one-shot is officially designed to publish between Catwoman #3 and #4, so completionists should slot it there once it is released.

Do You Have to Read Every Absolute Comic?

No.

That is probably the single most useful thing to know before starting.

If you only want Batman

Read Absolute Batman from #1 onward. Add Absolute Wonder Woman #15 immediately before Batman #16. Read Absolute Evil #1 if you want the broader universe context.

If you only want Wonder Woman

Read Absolute Wonder Woman from #1 onward. When you reach #15, continue directly into Absolute Batman #16 for the second half of that crossover.

If you only want Superman

Read Absolute Superman from #1 onward. No other ongoing is currently required to follow his core story.

If you want the 2025 expansion

Pick Flash, Green Lantern or Martian Manhunter at #1. None requires reading all three launch books first.

If you want the entire universe

Read DC All In Special #1, then work through the six main series by collected volume or series order. Add Absolute Evil #1, the Batman/Wonder Woman crossover, Green Arrow, Catwoman and the upcoming specials/events where they connect.

There is no reward for turning this into homework.

Best Collected-Edition Order

For readers who would rather buy trades than track twenty-plus single issues per ongoing, the first wave of collections gives you a very clean starting shelf:

1. Absolute Batman Vol. 1: The Zoo — #1–6
2. Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 1: The Last Amazon — #1–7
3. Absolute Superman Vol. 1: Last Dust of Krypton — #1–6
4. Absolute Flash Vol. 1: Of Two Worlds — #1–6
5. Absolute Green Lantern Vol. 1: Without Fear — #1–6
6. Absolute Martian Manhunter Vol. 1: Martian Vision — #1–6

You do not need to read those six volumes in that exact order. The list is organized by launch wave, not because Batman Vol. 1 secretly unlocks Wonder Woman Vol. 1.

Once you choose which characters you like, continue with their subsequent collected editions.

That is a much more sensible catch-up method than building a 100-line chronology where you jump from Batman #3 to Wonder Woman #2 to Superman #2 simply because those happened to hit stores in that sequence.

What About the First Absolute Universe Event?

It is coming, but do not put an invented title into your pull list yet.

At ComicsPro in February 2026, DC officially announced that the first Absolute Universe event miniseries will arrive in Q4 2026.

As of August 24, DC has not provided enough official information to tell readers an exact issue-by-issue order for that event.

When those details arrive, this is the part of the guide that will need updating.

Until then, Absolute Evil #1 and the Wonder Woman #15 → Batman #16 crossover are the most important shared reading points already published.

Is the Absolute Universe an Elseworlds?

It is safest to call it the Absolute Universe, a separate DC reality introduced through DC All In Special #1.

DC’s own material consistently describes it as another world/universe running alongside the core line. You may see shorthand labels and fan-designated Earth names online, but this guide is not going to assign it “Earth-Alpha” without a clear current DC source establishing that as the official designation.

That is also why “Absolute Universe” should not be confused with a DC Absolute Edition.

An Absolute Edition is DC’s oversized premium collected-edition format — Absolute Watchmen, Absolute Sandman and many others. Those books have existed for years and have nothing to do with this specific continuity just because the word “Absolute” is on the spine.

The Short Version

If this whole guide still sounds like too much, use this:

Pick a hero. Start at #1.

Add DC All In Special #1 if you want the cosmic setup.

Add Absolute Evil #1 before Absolute Green Arrow.

When Wonder Woman reaches #15, read Absolute Batman #16 next.

Everything else can be expanded character by character instead of treated like one giant mandatory chain.

That modular structure is one of the Absolute Universe’s biggest strengths. It feels connected now, but it still lets Batman readers read Batman and Green Lantern readers read Green Lantern without demanding a degree in crossover logistics.
